Pregnancy Massage

What is Pregnancy Massage?

Pregnancy is a special time during which significant physiological, emotional and spiritual changes are occurring in a woman’s body all at once.  Every woman’s pregnancy journey is unique depending on how her body responds and adjusts to these significant changes. Pregnancy Massage is a gentle therapeutic treatment that is designed to support a woman’s body, mind and spirit transition through each trimester in-line with the changes as they are occurring.

What are the Benefits of Pregnancy Massage?

Aches and pains are common complaints from pregnant women — and for good reason.  This is especially true in the second and third trimester as a woman’s belly grows and yet still common in the first trimester with all the hormonal changes taking place.  Anxiety and stress can often also be at their peak during these most precious months when mothers are making potential life altering decisions for themselves, their partner and their baby. With so much going on, worry can create mental and physical tension which leads to noticeable discomfort that can start to effect sleep, eating and irritability. However, getting a massage while pregnant can help alleviate these symptoms. Maternity massage may improve sleep, reduce joint swelling, alleviate muscle pain and cramps, lessen nerve pain and even reduce the babies stress hormones.  Prenatal massage, maternity massage and postnatal massage can make a world of difference so that mothers can truly enjoy the wonderful miracle of motherhood.

How Safe is Pregnancy Massage?

It is natural for new mothers and fathers to have some initial concern about just how safe pregnancy massage is and how it might affect their baby or the mother’s health during pregnancy. Luckily, massage during pregnancy is not only safe but when done correctly can re-energize mums and give them the strength and relief to make it through their pregnancy with ease and more enjoyment. Many doctors recognize and recommend massage as a way for expecting mothers to prepare for birth, with the greatest benefits experienced from consistent treatments. Tyack Health’s highly qualified and experienced Remedial Massage therapist has done additional pregnancy training as she has a special interest in pregnancy massage.

Tips to help you get the most out of your massage

Your massage will be most effective if your body is well hydrated, so we suggest you have a drink of water before and after your massage.

It is always best to take a shower or bath before your massage so you can fully relax and enjoy.

Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing that will keep you warm after the massage.

Allow extra time before and after your massage so you are not rushed and can enjoy the process and the results.

If you would like to have your hands, feet or face included in your massage, please be sure to let your therapist know before the massage begins as they will need to plan the treatment around your request.
